How We Promote Sport at OIC Brighton

At OIC Brighton, we recognise that a balanced and healthy lifestyle is essential for both personal development and academic success. We are committed to fostering an environment where students can thrive not only in the classroom but also through physical activity and sports.

The Benefits of Regular Exercise

Our students are consistently encouraged to engage in regular exercise, understanding it’s numerous benefits. Exercise helps to improve physical fitness and overall health while also enhancing mental wellbeing and reducing stress. Regular physical activity contributes to better sleep, increased energy levels and the development of teamwork, leadership and resilience. By embedding these values into our college culture, we ensure that our students appreciate the role of physical activity in achieving a well-rounded education.

An Inclusive and Challenging Sports Programme

We offer a diverse sports programme designed to cater to all interests and abilities, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to participate, whether they are competitive athletes or simply looking to stay active. Our visiting specialists lead a CrossFit programme focused on strength, conditioning and fitness, as well as a yoga option that promotes wellbeing, balance and relaxation. Football remains a favourite among students, with expert coaching provided by Brighton and Hove Albion trainers. Additionally, basketball and volleyball sessions, led by our experienced coach Luke, offer students a dynamic and engaging sporting experience.

For those who enjoy competition, we encourage participation in inter-house matches for football, badminton and volleyball. These fixtures help foster teamwork, college spirit and personal growth alongside academic achievement. Our college sporting events such as house football tournaments, bring students together, strengthening friendships and encouraging healthy competition.

Supporting Academic Success Through Sport

At OIC Brighton, we believe that sporting opportunities enhance academic study by developing discipline, focus and determination. Regular exercise has a profound impact on mental wellbeing, helping to reduce stress and improve overall happiness, which in turn supports academic performance.

Our sports provision includes both structured training and casual activities, ensuring students have the flexibility to maintain an active lifestyle in a way that suits them. As part of our Super Curricular Programme, students also have the chance to participate in additional coaching sessions with Brighton and Hove Albion, further enriching their sporting experience.

Student Perspectives

Students at OIC Brighton appreciate the variety of sporting options available to them:

"As someone who takes PE GCSE, I find the sports programme here really beneficial. On Mondays, we have football sessions with Brighton & Hove Albion coaches, which help improve our technical skills. We’ve also participated in cross-country competitions and fixtures against other schools, and we’re hoping to have inter-house athletics competitions soon. The gym is also available for students who want to work on their fitness individually." Golie, Year 11

"I love the variety of sports on offer here, from golf and tennis to football, basketball, and gym sessions. The school facilitates off-site opportunities for different sports, ensuring that everyone has the chance to participate in activities they enjoy. Even for niche sports, our staff work hard to make sure we have access to the right facilities. The school sporting events are always a highlight for me!" Osman, Year 13

At OIC Brighton, we are committed to ensuring that every student finds a sport that excites and motivates them. Whether it's through competitive fixtures, personal training goals, or simply staying active for wellbeing, our sports programme offers something for everyone.

By prioritising physical activity alongside academic study, we empower our students to develop resilience, teamwork and a lifelong appreciation for health and fitness.
